Painting and decorating

What they do:

Painters and decorators protect and enhance buildings, both inside and out. They treat wooden elements such as roofs, claddings, windows, doors, gates, and balconies with coatings and paints that preserve and improve their appearance. They give facades and interiors a fresh look through colour design, decorative elements, ornaments, and paintings, and apply wallpaper to create pleasant and comfortable indoor spaces. Their work also contributes to improving the appearance of towns and cities.

Painters and decorators carry out painting and coating work on metal parts such as gates, railings, and grilles, and may also design signs and advertising boards. They perform drywall and insulation work in both interior and exterior areas. In the field of heritage restoration, they check and prepare surfaces (for example, assessing moisture and stability), mix colours, and match shades to surrounding surfaces or interior furnishings according to client requirements. Paints and coatings are applied using various tools and techniques – with brushes, rollers, or spray systems – following professional standards.

Painters and decorators plan, coordinate, and document their work, calculate materials, time, and costs, and ensure that the work meets client expectations. They work independently or in teams, organise the necessary resources, and are responsible for quality control and finishing.
